PAULA CASTILLO
Blue Mountain in Black, 2022
This cast concrete sculpture (edition of 3) is a fictionalized abstraction of the Rio Grande as she sits between Belen and Socorro to represent a mountain range. Using a mountain to reference the river relates to the absence of presence in our field of vision of rivers as they lay flat and almost disappear for miles and miles beyond their obvious boundaries to bring attention to the monumentality of our western rivers. This work can be displayed either inside or outside.
