KEISUKE AZUMA

STATEMENT

Parallel Shadows explores presence and absence of

memories, identity. Upon delicate layers of oil paint,

Azuma’s dissolving figures seem to emerge and fade within

undefined spaces, creating a still atmosphere of

uncertainty.

European artistic influences and his Japanese aesthetics

form an unseen yet familiar shape of figurations as if the

shadows flux under different circumstances. The exhibition

invites the audience to engage actively and physically if

possible, filling in unsolved spaces of the painWngs and

reflecting on the shifting nature of perception and self.
